Circular hike Colma - S. Verena - Barbiano

Autumnal circular hike on the slopes of the Valle Isarco valley: On the tracks of ancient trade routes we discover a rich natural and cultural landscape

The sunny slopes of the Valle Isarco valley are not without reason, especially in autumn, a destination for leisurely hiking tours. This time the "Törggele" period has led us to Colma, the valley village of the municipality of Barbiano. Here we start and follow the road briefly towards Sant’Ingenuino, from which path no. 8 branches off towards Santa Verena.

We follow this road, past vineyards, down into the Dicktele Trench and along trail no. 8B back up to the vineyards around the Völklhof farm. We continue a little further up to the Pirchnerhof farm and the hill of Santa Verena, a magical place. It is easy to understand that the panoramic hill and the entire surrounding area are the site of prehistoric witnesses of human presence.

Now we descend again and follow the signpost "Keschtnweg" (chestnut path) towards Sant’Ingenuino and Barbiano. This part of the circular walk runs along the asphalt road and has only a slight difference in altitude. In Barbiano we pass the church of St. James with its famous leaning tower and descend via path no. 5, which leads over the meadow slopes back down into the valley to Colma. Here the circle closes and our scenic and culturally rich walk comes to an end.
