Naturpark Sextner Dolomiten

Tre Cime-Dolomiti di Sesto Nature Park

This area in the east of South Tyrol is characterised by a rich flora and fauna.

Since 1981, the Dolomiti di Sesto Nature Park - known as the Sextner Dolomiten Nature Park in German - stretches from the municipalities of Sesto, San Candido and Dobbiaco to the north-eastern Dolomites, Valle di Landro and neighboring Belluno.

Covering an area of 11,635 hectares, the nature park is composed above all of rocks, stony ridges and debris. Nevertheless, you will see crocuses, bell flowers, badgers, martens, gentians and orchids, deer and woodpeckers.

During World War 1, the Dolomiti di Sesto region was the site of a fierce battle between Italian and Austrian forces for two and a half years. Still today you might see bullet-holes in the rocks or rusty shell splinters on the grounds…

The Provincial Administration of South Tyrol decided to change the name of this nature park into “Tre Cime nature park” in February 2010, due to the fact that these three pinnacles are famous all over the world and represent the most outstanding symbol of the nature reserve.
