Riolagundo is located high above the valley basin of Merano, surrounded by lushly green fields and forests.
Riolagundo, a locality in the countryside belonging to Lagundo, is surrounded by mountain meadows and forests, high above the beginning of the Val Venosta. Far away from the main traffic roads, clear mountain air and tranquillity prevail in this village, providing in addition a fabulous view on the opposite mountain landscape of the Gruppo di Tessa nature park.
The little mountain village, situated at 1,360 m asl, can be accessed via a 12 km long mountain road that takes its course from Tel. Otherwise you can take the funicular from Rablà/Saring. If have a particular interest for culture, we recommend you a visit to the little Madonna della Neve church of the year 1695, or a visit to the Sacro Cuore church, constructed in 1886.
However, what also makes Riolagundo worth a visit are its possibilities regarding hikes. Popular destinations such as the Monte San Vigilio, the Cima Lavazzè or the alpine pastures of Naturno can be reached from this place. What makes hiking and mountaineering so special in Riolagundo is the fabulous panoramic view on the Gruppo di Tessa mountains and the Val d’Adige.
