The municipality of Nalles is situated about 16 km in the south of Merano and stretches from 300 to 1,000 m asl. With a number of inhabitants of 1,800, Nalles is surrounded by a scenic landscape of fruit orchards and vine-yards. The mild climate prevailing in the basin of Merano also reaches Nalles, making olive and lime trees flourish. However, a plant for which Nalles is above all known is the rose, thriving in every corner of the locality. For this reason Nalles is also called the “village of roses”.
Nalles is by the way venue for a series of events taking place in the course of the year: starting with the mountain bike race “cross-country E1″ in spring, followed by the classic motorbike race and the horse riding festival as well as the village fair, taking place every two years.
Highlight and main attraction of the village is Castel Schwanburg, dating back to the 13th century. This ancient building hosts the most ancient private wine cellar of South Tyrol, ideal for tasting a glass of good wine.
