Hippodrome of Maia Bassa

In the heart of the Alps close to the city of Merano, there is the unique and famous hippodrome of Maia Bassa.

This facility has been inaugurated in 1935 and it has become venue for the event “Großer Preis von Meran”.
Due to its central location in Middle Europe as well as its challenging obstacle course, this hippodrome has become one of the main European meeting points for horse riders. This is where jockeys and horse riders face real challenges, competing with their best rivals.

The horse riding season in the hippodrome of Maia Bassa ranges from May to October and comprises 25 days of competitions, which are usually held on Sundays and feast days. Due to the pleasant climate of Merano and surroundings, the hippodrome of Maia Bassa can also be used in July and August.
