Every year in the first half of August, the Perseids can be seen in the sky, a recurring meteor shower with an accumulation of shooting stars. This natural phenomenon was already reported in China in 36 BC. According to legend, however, it is the tears of Saint Lawrence that fall from the sky. In the centre of Bolzano, called Centro-Piano, the historic Arcades of Bolzano become a fairground on the Night of St. Lawrence. From early evening until midnight, the town's wineries are presenting a wide variety of South Tyrolean wine accompanied by culinary delicacies and South Tyrolean products such as Speck and mountain cheese, which are on offer at the gourmet stalls.
The restaurants also offer creative menus. The Night of St. Lawrence (Lorenzinacht) is one of the highlights during the summer: In direct contact with the producers, you can learn interesting facts about the cultivation, processing and production of the grape juice. It is organised by the tourist board in collaboration with the Bolzano wineries under the patronage of the Town of Bolzano.
