Monte Corno Nature Park
In the sunny south of South Tyrol there is the Monte Corno nature park.
Also known as the Trudner Horn Nature Park in German, it is actually the most southerly as well as the lowest nature park in all of South Tyrol. Covering an area of 6,870 hectares, it reaches altitudes from 300 - 1,700 metres. Due to its geopraphical position and the sub-Mediterranean climate the nature park features a rich flora and fauna.
And if you are lucky you might spot fire salamanders, dormice, hoopoes or admire fire lilies, orchids and anemones.
A number of biotopes are spread throughout the sunny south of South Tyrol offering further protection to various local animals and plants:
> the “Fuchsmoos” biotope near Andriano
> the “Castelfeder” biotope near Montagna
> the “Lange Moos” biotope near Monte Corno
> the reeds at the southern shore of Lake Caldaro
> Our tip: In the biotope near the waters of Lago di Favogna you can still find the river crayfish! Definitely worth a visit I would say…
