Bolzano Oltrisarco-Aslago

High above the districts of Oltrisarco and Aslago, Flavon Castle towers into the sky, offering a breathtaking view on the town

The German names for Oltrisarco and Aslago - Oberau and Haslach - are typical for the High Middle Ages, presumably already back then this area of the today's Bolzano was settled. Still in the 1960s, Aslago consisted of only a few farmsteads, an old healing spring also appears at the St. Gertrude Church. However, it then expanded and today makes up the southern part of Bolzano.

Oltrisarco-Aslago stretches from the village of San Giacomo near Laives to the Maso Della Pieve Sports Grounds, then further to the town cemetery of Bolzano and the Via Claudia Augusta road towards Mt. Virgolo. Also the business park of Bolzano is located in this district. Numerous well-known names can be found there: The Thun ceramics manufacturer and TechnoAlpin for example, the latter provided the snow for the Winter Olympics in Beijing with its snow-making equipment. You can even visit a museum here: The Ciné Museum Bolzano exhibits objects from the beginnings of cinema in the 1920s to the present day. Most of them come from the region.

With the new train stop Bolzano South at the Bolzano Fair, it is possible to reach the numerous trade fairs comfortably by public transport. Oltrisarco-Aslago is separated from the town centre by the Isarco River. High above it, Flavon Castle is enthroned, today a restaurant with a sky bar. The car park in the forest right next to it is a popular starting point for hikes on Mt. Regole and Mt. Virgolo: Here tours with magnificent views on Bolzano start, such as the Laives High Route. Down in the district, on the other hand, the panoramic bike tour between Colle and Laives passes by.
