Nova Ponente extends from Thurn Castle in the main village to the Pietralba Pilgrimage Site and the Obereggen Ski Area
On the way to the Val d'Ega, after the star village of San Valentino in Campo, the road splits: To the left, it leads to Nova Levante and Lake Carezza, to the right, to Nova Ponente with the famous Latemar Dolomites Skiing Area in Obereggen.
The municipality is located on the Monte Regolo plateau on the western edge of the Dolomites. All around, you can admire the mountain massifs of the Sciliar, the Catinaccio, and the Latemar, ideal for extensive tours on foot or by bike. The Monte Regolo is criss-crossed by alpine pastures, dotted with small mountain huts that invite you to stop for refreshment.
From Nova Ponente, panoramic hikes start to the Laab Hut, the Oberholz Mountain Hut, the Häusler Sam mountain inn, and high up into the Latemarium Obereggen with its impressive viewing platform and the different theme trails. In the cold season, the paths to the various alpine pastures transform into charming winter hiking trails.
Some of them offer the opportunity for a toboggan ride on the way back. The ski lifts, on the other hand, take you to the widely known Latemar Dolomites Skiing Area, part of the Dolomiti Superski carousel. The municipal area of Nova Ponente consists of four small villages, with Nova Ponente village being the main centre and telling the history of the area in its local museum.
Additionally, there are Ega and Obereggen with its skiing area, as well as Monte San Pietro. This fourth hamlet is located a bit further away, on the road to Aldino in the south of South Tyrol. A small mountain road leads from Monte San Pietro slightly further uphill to the Madonna di Pietralba Pilgrimage Site, whose Baroque church is called the "Cathedral in the Dolomites".
