In Medieval times Glorenza was a renowned trade centre, which at the end of the 13th century was rewarded the so-called “market right”. It was in the early 14th century that the place for the first time was referred to as a town. When in the 16th century the small town was largely destroyed by a fire, the Austrian emperor Maximilian ordered to rebuild it.
The only way to enter the town, known as the smallest town all over the Alps, is across the three town gates. At the centre of the town are two medieval arcades. Still today the town boasts a lovel rural charm and hence it is no suprise if one day you will meet a cow at the heart of the town…
> We suggest: Pay a visit to the pretty small shops of Glorenza and don’t miss watching the local town wall!
