The wine trail “Via Vinum Venostis” shows you the landscape between Juval and Laces at the entrance to the Stelvio National Park
Laces in the Val Venosta is the gateway to the Val Martello and the Stelvio National Park. Here, the Rio Plima, which originates in the alpine heights of the Stelvio Pass, and the Rio di Tis from the Monte Sole in the Val Venosta, flow into the Adige before continuing to the Adriatic Sea. Parts of the municipality are already within the National Park: The districts of Laces village, Coldrano, and Tarres lie on the valley floor in the Val Venosta.
The municipality then rises to the pilgrimage site of San Martino al Monte, located on the Monte Sole (Sun Mountain). On the other side, it extends via Morter into the Val Martello, up to the 3,257-metre-high, glaciated Orecchia di Lepre on the watershed between the Val Venosta and the Val d'Ultimo.
All this gives Laces a diverse character with different climatic zones and landscapes. The appealing scenery with its fruit trees in the valley, the mountains, and the glaciers high above - not to forget the distinctive villages - make Laces an attractive holiday destination. There are countless ways to spend your free time: from the riding stable in Tarres to the AquaForum Laces, and one of the bike parks in South Tyrol with its trails in the National Park.
The "Via Vinum Venostis" leads you on foot along the old "Waale", the former irrigation channels. On excursions with a rucksack and a packed snack, you can discover the surrounding alpine pastures and cycle along the Val Venosta Cycle Path beside the Adige River to Merano. The colourful trains of the Val Venosta railway will bring you back: Laces has its own train station.
Winter sports are also well catered for, thanks to the Gumpfrei luge track at the Malga di Tarres valley station, as well as ski slopes in the nearby Val Martello and on the Val Senales Glacier.
