The Fugger town Vipiteno forms the heart of the Wipptal, the Upper Valle Isarco. This is the name given to the area at the upper reaches of the Isarco River, extending to North Tyrol in Austria. In summer, the mountains provide a pleasant coolness, while in the cold season, Mt. Tribulaun in the Val di Fleres and the Monteneve in the Val Ridanna attract winter sports enthusiasts to ski touring, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing areas on the slopes of the Stubai Alps.
South of Vipiteno, around the episcopal town of Bressanone, the valley broadens. Vineyards and orchards characterise the landscape, and chestnut trees thrive on the sunny slopes. Destinations such as the Sabiona Monastery also perch majestically here. The Valle Isarco, which stretches via Chiusa and the Dolomite valley of Funes to Bolzano, is a Toerggele destination in autumn.
