Ridanna

Ridanna harkens back on an animated mining history and offers varied possibilities regarding leisure time activities.

The Val Ridanna stretches westbound from the city of Vipiteno, on a length of 16 km it snakes into the heart of the Stubai Alps. The relatively wide valley harkens back on an animated mining history, for about 800 years silver, lead and ore have been mined. In the provincial museum of Monteneve in Masseria, you can soak yourself in the history of mining of the valley. By the way, Monteneve used to be the highest located mine of Europe.

Also the mining chapel S. Maddalena, constructed in 1480 in the heart of the alpine scenery, as well as the S. Lorenzo chapel of Masseria, are testimonies of this period steeped in history.

Some 170 inhabitants live in the valley, so relaxation and tranquility are bound to occur. In winter the ski lift at Gasse/Ento is ideal for making one’s first passes on snow, while the Stadelalm toboggan run guarantees fun in a family getaway. Also in the biathlon world, Ridanna is a household name, as there is a modern biathlon centre, that in 2011 was venue for the IBU Open European Championships U26. A ski tour on the Einacht mountain is also a worthwhile experience.

By the way: to athletically trained mountaineers we recommend a tour to the highest located mountain refuge of South Tyrol, that is the Rifugio Bicchiere (3,195 m). It can be reached within approximately 7 hours of walking.
