Rio di Pusteria
The Chiusa of Rio Pusteria is the symbol of the market town of Rio Pusteria and its localities of Maranza, Valles and Spinga.
The market town of Rio Pusteria is located between the Valle Isarco and the Val Pustieria and is part of the Gitschberg-Jochtal holiday area. The so-called Chiusa di Rio Pusteria, a former toll station and defensive fortress located in the east of the municipality, could be considered to be the symbol of Rio. Today this fortress can be visited in a guided tour in summer months. By the way, Rio Pusteria has got some 2,800 inhabitants and stretches from 777 m asl to 1,414 m, comprising also the localities of Maranza, Valles and Spinga.
The hiking areas Gitschberg and Jochtal, the idyllic village of alpine pastures of the Fane, the genuine Valle d’Altafossa and the part of the Alta Via di Fundres that snakes in the mountains of Valles make your summer holidays varied. In winter, however, Gitschberg and Jochtal transform into charming skiing areas, at the Malga Fane there is a toboggan run, while two circular trails make cross-country skiers’ hearts leap for joy. Torchlight walks and horse-drawn sleigh rides make your winter dreams come true.
Also a miniature golf course, an outdoor pool, an indoor pool and a tennis hall as well as the long summer nights at the church square of Rio Pusteria make Rio Pusteria an attractive holiday destination.
