Fires in honour of Jesus
“Herz-Jesu-Feuer” is the German name for this event, taking place in June.
Every year, at a Sunday night of June, South Tyrol offers a very special highlight: High up in the mountains, huge figures are made out of fire, the so-called “Herz-Jesu-Feuer” (literally: fires for the heart of Jesus).
This tradition goes back to the year of 1796, when the Tyrolean so bitterly fought for their freedom and pledged their troth to the heart of Jesus if they would win the fight. Well, the fight was won by the Tyroleans indeed and still today, on this special night, they make these huge fires to honour the heart of Jesus.
>Our tip: Huge hearts, crosses and nubers out of fire and glowing chains all along the ridges may be seen!
History and tradition come to life again!
