Already the Romans travelled across the village of Dobbiaco and the near-by Val di Landro valley. This road connecting the south with the north was called “Strada d’Alemagna” and soon became one of the main communication roads of Europe.
Today the village is known as the “municipality of the Tre Cime”, fascinating mountain peaks towering high above the near-by lake of Dobbiaco. Such famous people as Gustav Mahler got to love this place, who chose Dobbiaco as his favourite summer resort. It was right here that he wrote his famous song “Lied der Erde” and the 9th and 10th symphony, which he unfortunately never finished!
