Rasa

The Raier Moos, a biotope and local recreation area, makes Rasa an ideal place for relaxing in nature

The inhabitants of Rasa (Raas) are known as "Raia". Recently, the small village has become so popular with locals that it has grown significantly. For those wanting to trade the tranquillity of the high plateau of Naz-Sciaves for the vibrant town life for a while, Bressanone in the valley is just a short bus or car journey away. Orchards and vineyards define the landscape around Rasa.

To the west and south, the terrain slopes gently down to the Bressanone basin and the wine-growing area of Novacella, with its famous Augustinian Abbey. To the north and east, Rasa is bordered by pine forests and the Raier Moos, a rewarding destination. Of the five nature reserves in the municipality, it is the largest and most significant biotope. Reeds and a nature trail with a high seat surround the lake, on whose shores pile dwellings stood in prehistoric times.

Frogs, wrens, and praying mantises live here. Right next to it is the "Apple Garden" play park, a popular meeting place for children. Here, they can climb on a five-metre-high wooden apple. The play park is a tribute to the countless apple trees that shape the landscape and agriculture. You can experience this apple splendour at festivals such as the Big Apple Festival, while in summer the Summer Night Event, a certified Green Event, offers the opportunity to taste Tirtlan.

The Church of St. Aegidius is of art-historical interest, a late Gothic building dedicated to the patron saint of viticulture. On the saint's name day, the 1st of September, the custom of distributing bread is still observed in Rasa. The surrounding area can also be explored easily on foot or by bike: Nearby, for example, are the Bressanone district of Millan with the Maria am Sand pilgrimage church, the Valle Isarco Cycle Path, and the mighty Novacella Abbey with its museum.
