Typewriter museum

This museum located in Parcines is dedicated to Peter Mitterhofer, inventor of the typewriter.

The Typewriter Museum was inaugurated in 1993 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Peter Mitterhofer, citizen of Parcines and inventor of the typewriter. In those days the museum was hosted by the former elementary school of Tel, but already in 1997 it was transferred to a new building, the so-called “Teisenhaus”, located in the centre of Parcines.

Toady this museum boasts four floors and some 1,300 exhibits, Providing an insight into more than 100 years of typewriting history. The exhibition comprises the timespan from 1864, the historic year of invention, up to the 80s of the 20th century. By means of new dimensions such as dioramas and modern communication media, the visitors get illustrated information about this invention and its history of origins.

One of the highlight of the museum is undoubtedly the so-called “Malling Hansen”, dating back to the year 1867 (Denmark). The Malling Hansen is one of the most precious typewriters ever. This writing ball won several awards and Malling Hansen himself, inventor of this typewriting machine, received the golden honour-medal. And of course also the very first typewriter invented by Peter Mitterhofer can be admired in the exhibition.

> Tuesdays - Thursdays from 10 am to 12 am and 3 pm to 6 pm
> Saturdays from 10 - 12 am
> from November to March:
> Tuesdays from 10 - 12 am
