Sciaves

The Sciaves circular walk takes you to the Flötscher Pond and to an interesting viewpoint

The small holiday village enjoys a sunny location on the high plateau of Naz-Sciaves, surrounded by neighbouring villages. Its direct neighbours also include the numerous apple trees, which shape the course of the year here through both agriculture and local festivals. In the centre, you will find the town hall and the Parish Church of St. Margaret, with its stone-framed, square portal.

The village's appearance is also shaped by the local shops and the bus stop. The hamlets of Raut and Förche are situated around the centre of Sciaves. The community centre is the cultural and social hub. The wide lanes, which are so pleasant to walk through today, are a consequence of the devastating village fire in 1897 that destroyed a large part of Sciaves (Schabs). The Sciaves volunteer fire brigade was also founded after the village was rebuilt.

The historic lime pits, where lime was once slaked, and the nearby Novacella Abbey in the valley also tell of the village's history. The abbey formerly owned large estates around Sciaves - a wealth that you can still sense today in its museum and the impressive monastic library. From here, activities and excursions are possible in all directions: The "Urlaubsstöckl" (Urlaub means "holiday"), a pilgrimage chapel on the southern slope of the Monte Spinga, is easily accessible.

The Sciaves circular walk takes you to the Flötscher Pond and to a viewpoint from which you can see Rodengo Castle on the other side of the mighty Rienza Gorge. Other options include the village tour to the other charming localities on the apple plateau, or a bike tour on Mount Ponente. There is also a barbecue area in Sciaves. In autumn, you can enjoy the vibrant colours of nature on a Toerggele walk, with a stop at a traditional inn to enjoy the local cuisine.
