Touriseum

The Touriseum, Provincial Museum of Tourism, can be visited in Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano.

The South Tyrol Museum of Tourism was inaugurated on March 15, 2003 at Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano, place where the Empress Elizabeth of Austria used to spend her holidays. In fact, there is no better place for a tourism museum than the holiday residence the Elizabeth who spent her holidays in Merano twice, which undoubtedly boosted tourism in this area. By the way, the Touriseum is the first museum of the Alpine area that is completely dedicated to the history of tourism.

The museum boasts a wide range of interesting exhibits as well as life-sized statues and figurines and detailled model exhibits. Make a journey in time and indulge into the history of tourism, starting about 200 years back in history. Furthermore there is a huge pinball, which is called „Südtirol Spiel“, a funny game for adults and kids. By switching you can navigate a ball across a wooden platform, representing the tourism landscape of South Tyrol.

The Touriseum has been implemented in a way that enables the visitors to visit the museum also autonomously, that is to say on their own. By the way, a visit to this museum can be perfectly combined with a visit to the botanic gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. So we really recommend you to arrange enough time for the two museums.
