At the end of spring, passionate off-road bikers meet in the Val Gardena valley for the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites, the toughest mountain bike race in the world to crown their "hero". For more than 10 years, the mountain bikers have started in Selva Gardena (Wolkenstein) at 1,563 m a.s.l., then the long route takes them over the Gardena Pass (pictured, 2,121 m a.s.l.), the Campolongo Pass (1,875 m a.s.l.), the Pordoi Pass (2,239 m a.s.l.) and the Duron Pass (2,280 m a.s.l.). It is a stage of the World Hero Series, and since 2021 also of the UCI Marathon Series. There are two routes:
-
Short Distance:
60 km, 3,200 m difference in altitude -
Long Distance:
86 km, 4,500 m difference in altitude
A big MTB festival, a Green Event, is part of the event and invites you to the HERO Night in the ice stadium. The HERO Village, where the hottest brands from the MTB world present their new products, and the HERO Women's Lounge are also part of the event. Even the young bikers can compete in the HERO Kids competition for children from 4-12 years of age.
