San Vigilio di Marebbe is the main village in the municipality of Marebbe. It is located a little south of Brunico in its own side valley, the Val di Marebbe. The centre of San Vigilio, arranged around the church dedicated to Saint Vigilius of Trent from which the village takes its name, is a pleasant place to spend time with its cafés, restaurants and small shops. It is surrounded by wide meadows, and the mighty Dolomite peaks in the background form an impressive backdrop.
San Vigilio is located in the third-largest nature park in South Tyrol and is therefore a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers, and anyone seeking peace and quiet in the mountains. This is also the home of the Kingdom of Fanes, a legendary high plateau and the setting of a famous Dolomite saga. You can find out what this saga is about on the San Vigilio Legend Trail.
Al Plan de Mareo, as the village is called in Ladin, also provides plenty of variety for families. There are nature-based activities such as the bathing spot on the Rio di San Vigilio, interesting museums and a dose of adrenaline: With the Zipline Adrenaline X-Treme Adventures, you can fly down into the valley 100 metres above the ground. When snow covers the valley, San Vigilio di Marebbe (St. Vigil in Enneberg) becomes a meeting point for winter sports enthusiasts. The village is one of four places from which Mt. Plan de Corones can be reached: The others are Brunico, Perca, and Valdaora. The lifts to the Plan de Corones Skiing Area start right at the edge of the village.
Even in late spring, they will still take you up to the well-groomed slopes. Things are more leisurely down in the valley: Here you can choose between a toboggan run, cross-country skiing through the Marebbe Valley, or a horse-drawn sleigh ride in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park.
