As the name suggests, the hamlet lies where the Rio Gadera and the Rio di San Vigilio streams meet
Zwischenwasser lies, as its German name suggests, literally "between the waters". The small hamlet is known as Longega in Italian and Ladin, and belongs to the municipality of Marebbe. It is the first village you reach when driving from the Val Pusteria to the Alta Badia, the upper part of the Val Badia. It is located just after the last tunnel on the now well-developed road.
You will not find any major attractions here, but you will find the typical, cosy atmosphere of a South Tyrolean mountain village at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. The small village centre, the surrounding alpine meadows and the nearby mountain peaks create a peaceful place where you can truly switch off and relax. Longega is overlooked by the peaks of the Dolomites in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park, which extends from the famous Lake Braies in the Upper Val Pusteria to the Val Badia. The "Tru dal'ega" theme trail, which begins at the nature park visitor centre in the neighbouring village of San Vigilio di Marebbe, explores this protected natural area.
From Longega, the road also leads you to San Vigilio and from there on to Pederü. Shortly before the end of the valley, a sign on the right points the way to a climbing garden with 14 routes of varying difficulty levels. There are numerous destinations for excursions in the surrounding area.
These include the Passo delle Erbe pass, where hikers and motorcyclists gather during the summer months - and, according to legend, even witches on a certain night in July. Also worth seeing is Ćiastel de Tor near San Martino in Badia, which now houses the Museum Ladin. In winter, the Plan de Corones Skiing Area, the largest in South Tyrol, also impresses with its slopes.
