Siusi is the second-largest hamlet of Castelrotto. The charming village borders Fié allo Sciliar and extends to the foot of the slopes of the Siusi Alp. At the edge of the village, the cable car departs, which takes you up to the Alpe di Siusi and operates for most of the year. As long as the cable car is running, the road up to the high-alpine pasture is closed to private traffic during the day. Outside of operating hours, the Alpe di Siusi nature protection area is also accessible by car.
Notable figures such as rocket pioneer Max Valier and Norwegian Prime Minister Sigurd Ibsen appreciated the special atmosphere of Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern) and spent their summer holidays here. Nearby, Bagni di Razzes also testifies to a long history as a health resort: until 1962, the historic spa was known for its pine needle baths. Of cultural interest are the Hauenstein ruins, also known as Castelvecchio and once owned by the minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein.
His name is ubiquitous in the area: The Oswald von Wolkenstein Path tells of knights' tables, a sword and mystical animals, and one of the tournaments of the famous Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride also takes place in Siusi allo Sciliar. In addition to the countless activities on the Alpe di Siusi, you will find the San Vigilio Siusi Golf Club on the road to the hamlet of San Vigilio.
It is an 18-hole course that blends harmoniously into the landscape. As soon as the first snow falls, the area is transformed: In addition to its slopes, the Alpe di Siusi Skiing Area has several cross-country ski trails and toboggan runs, and is directly connected to the Val Gardena Ski Resort.
