The Museum of Mountain Photography - "Haus der Bergphotographie" in German, "Casa della Fotografia di Montagna" in Italian - was opened in December 2018 at the summit of Mt. Plan de Corones. The 2,275 m high peak at the edge of the Dolomites is a popular hiking area in summer, but an even more famous skiing area in winter. A suitable ambience for a museum with pictures of the mountains, here in the middle of the Dolomites! Directly on the summit plateau a historic building was modernised: Since 1963, it housed the old mountain station of the Plan de Corones Cable Car and later served as a restaurant and B&B.
In collaboration with the Kronplatz AG, TAP, Red Bull Illume, Alinari and National Geographic a museum which is also supposed to be a window to the Dolomites was built here in two years. The pictures accompany you through historical times, changing exhibitions offer a glimpse into the future and are a must for every alpinist, mountain and nature lover.
Inside the House of Mountain Photography there are also event and meeting rooms as well as the AlpiNN Food Space and Restaurant of the famous star chef Norbert Niederkofler. There is also another museum located on Mt. Plan de Corones, the MMM Corones, one of the six Messner Mountain Museums. The exhibition there is concerned with traditional alpinism. And how to reach the LUMEN - Museum of Mountain Photography? The Plan de Corones 2000 Cable Car takes you up to the summit from Riscone (parking space at the valley station).
