Valdaora di Mezzo is the chief village of the municipality of Valdaora. From this place you reach the top of the Plan de Corones.
Valdaora di Mezzo is located at 1,048 m asl and has got 1,400 inhabitants. This is where the S. Egidio church is located, dating back to 1138. This church is characterised by frescos of the famous painter Michael Pacher as well as his pupil Simon von Taisten. Worth noticing is also the monument in the centre of the village, dedicated to the Tyrolean freedom fighter Peter Sigmay.
Only a stone’s throw from Valdaora di Mezzo, in Gassl, there is the lower terminus of the funicular, taking you to the top of the Plan de Corones, offering some 105 km of ski slopes for your winter holidays. There is really something for every taste. In summer, the Plan de Corones transforms into a hiking area.
However, you can also go hiking down in the valley. On Foot you can for example reach the Lanzwiesenalm pasture, where you can taste local delicacies in summertime.
