At the end of the Val Gardena, where the Sella Group imposingly rises, lies the municipality of Selva, Sëlva in Ladin. Here you are in the breathtaking landscape between the Gardena Pass, which connects the valley with Corvara in the Upper Val Badia, and the Sella Pass, the passage from Selva Gardena to Canazei in the Val di Fassa. These are the classic passes of the Dolomites Round Tour, a popular tour on two or four wheels, and the Sella Ronda, the ski round trip, in winter.
Selva Gardena stretches out on both sides of the road. The uninhabited Vallunga valley starts near the village and leads deep into the Puez Group. The mountain world shows its best side here: Hiking destinations are the Stevia and Puez Huts and the 2,725 m high Col de Puez at the end of the valley, where two smaller side valleys branch off to the Gardenacia Plateau in the Val Badia. The St. Sylvester Chapel with its more than 300-year-old frescoes is idyllically enthroned at the entrance of the Vallunga. From the Sella Pass you can reach the Stone City and the Toni Demetz Hut, and plan the way back using the only standing cable car in South Tyrol.
Selva Gardena offers a rich programme of activities in every season. In the warm months, this includes the riding school and the indoor tennis court with bowling alley, as well as the slackline park on the municipal meadow. In early summer, Selva becomes the centre of cycling when the starting signal is given for the Sellaronda Bike Day and the HERO Südtirol Dolomites. As soon as the snow covers the village, the Pranives Ice Rink opens in the village. The lifts take you directly to the Ciampinoi and so to the Val Gardena Skiing Area, part of the Dolomiti Superski.
