South Tyrol’s Engineering Mile - cable cars, hydropower stations, and railways virtually and in real life

The Board of Trustees for Technical Heritage (Kuratorium für Technische Kulturgüter) was founded in 1995 to document and make accessible to the public technically and historically significant sites such as cable cars, hydropower stations, and railways. This resulted in both a virtual museum - the Tecneum - and a South Tyrol-wide route to these special locations.
Mountain railways, power stations, reservoirs, and road constructions often arose under the most challenging conditions and are, in part, testaments to true engineering ingenuity. The Tecneum's virtual collection presents historically interesting objects and ensembles from 200 years of technological history, along with an object database. The Engineering Mile is part of the project.
It is integrated into South Tyrol's cycle path network and leads to 50 selected locations, including the stations of the Val Venosta Railway. Conferences, events, and exhibitions on technological development round out what the Board of Trustees offers. For example, an exhibition in the Fortezza Fortress commemorated "150 Years of the Brennero Railway".
How to get there : The Board of Trustees itself is located under the Arcades of Bolzano. The collection featuring railways, and architectural examples is accessible virtually. It is divided into three areas: technical milestones, geographical locations, and historically relevant reference points.
