Novale di Monguelfo (Welsberger Ried) lies on the left bank of the Rienza River, scattered along the northern slopes of the Braies Dolomites. It is one of the hamlets that, together with the main villages of Monguelfo and Tesido, form the municipality of Monguelfo-Tesido. The other two are the small scattered settlement of Riva di Sotto and the district of Prati di Tesido.
Novale is located close to the Pusterbike Cycle Path. The route is ideal for a family bike tour: It crosses the Val Pusteria and is popular for combining cycling and rail travel, as the coloured trains of the Val Pusteria Railway will bring you and your bike comfortably back to your starting point.
The area is also interesting to explore on foot: The surrounding area can be seen on numerous paths. The Valdaora Reservoir, on the municipal border of Monguelfo-Tesido, is just a short walk away. Two other worthwhile destinations are the Walde Hut, in a very quiet, sunny location above Monguelfo, and the Novale di Monguelfo circular trail. This path leads via the Lettner Farms, the locality of Waldbrunn and the Gailerhof farmstead to Monguelfo.
In winter, the snowy Val Pusteria attracts visitors with the nearby ski resorts of Plan de Corones - accessible from Valdaora - and 3 Zinnen Dolomites around Dobbiaco, San Candido and Sesto, as well as numerous cross-country ski tracks and toboggan runs.
