Enjoying the racing bike and the Dolomites: Every year in July the “Maratona dles Dolomites” takes place, a bike race for everyone
In the beginnings there were only 166 of them - in 2019 the number of cyclists mastering seven mighty Dolomite passes amounts of over 9,000: Campolongo Pass (1,875 m a.s.l.), Pordoi Pass (2,239 m a.s.l.), Sella Pass (2,244 m a.s.l.), Gardena Pass (2,121 m a.s.l.), Giau Pass (2,236 m a.s.l.), Valparola Pass (2,200 m a.s.l.) and Mür dl Giat (1,472 m a.s.l.). We are talking about the Maratona dles Dolomites, a thrilling bike race for non-professionals. There are three courses:
-
Marathon Course:
138 km, 4,230 m of altitude difference -
Medium Course:
106 km, 3,130 m of altitude difference -
Sellaronda Course:
55 km, 1,780 m of altitude difference
The cycle marathon is fairly well organised, sponsored by the Italian distributor of electricity and gas Enel, and suppported by the region and Alta Badia. Many of the local associations and clubs are participating in it and plan the entertainment programme as well as the refreshment points.
