Lake Braies is lone of the most beautiful mountain lakes of South Tyrol and is located in S. Vito.
The small village of San Vito is located at 1.351 m and has got about 70 inhabitants. The parish church of S. Vito dates back to the 14th century, on the cemetery of the village there is the grave of the Dolomite pioneer Viktor Wolf von Glanvell.
If you leave behind S. Vito and you proceed on the road, you reach the main attraction of the Valle di Braies, which is the Lago di Braies. Located at 1,494 m, you can walk round this emerald green lake on an easy walking trail. Its surface reflects the mountains of the Braies Dolomites, that is to say the Croda del Becco and many more mountains. By the way, in 2011, this lake was venue for the World Championships in fly fishing.
Even if S. Vito in winter is not too sun-drenched, there are many possibilities for excursions and walks in the surroundings, such as the Prato Piazza, a breathtaking high-plateau at 2,000 m.
