At the head of the Valle di Casies, there is the idyllic village of S. Maddalena, ideal for excursions.
S. Maddalena di Sotto and S. Maddalena di Sopra together form the charming village at the head of the valley and are located at 1,400 m asl. Some farmsteads are even located at 1,530 m and are flanked by the foothills of the Vedrette di Ries and the Defreggen Alps.
The Rif. Fondovalle in S. Maddalena, numerous hiking trails start, such as the Almweg 2000. This walk of more hours takes you from one mountain hut to the next and stretches above the idyllic head of the valley. Combined with a stop at one of the mountain huts, an experience for palate, body and soul.
In winter, there is an little ski lift in S. Maddalena. This is also where several hikes and ski tours start, such as the tour to the Monte Alto. If you prefer more comfortable activities, we recommend you a horse-drawn carriage ride.
