Every year in August, the main village of Sluderno transforms into a festival site. On the meadow next to the village centre, with its venerable houses, wooden stalls are set up, knights' tents are pitched, and tournaments with lance and shield, or on horseback, are fought. The Medieval Knight Games South Tyrol are now well-known throughout the region and attract thousands of visitors each year - a festival with a magnificent view of Coira Castle.
It is enthroned above the village and has long been the seat of the Counts of Trapp. You can visit it as part of a guided tour. A visit is worthwhile: Arcades adorned with magnificent paintings surround the inner courtyard, and inside, you'll find the world's largest private armoury.
Near the castle, a hike also begins, following the Sluderno Waalwege paths and the Edelweiss Path down into the gorge of the Rio Saldura. It offers you expansive views and leads past the Ganglegg archaeological site, which tells the story of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Alpine region. Back in the village, you can admire its finds in the VUSEUM - Venosta Valley Museum. Among all these attractions, there is a playground surrounded by greenery.
In the village, you will also find everything else you need: A library, town hall, village shop, cafés, and hotels are clustered in the village centre around the Parish Church of St. Catherine. The second church here, at the foot of the Monte Sole, is also worth seeing: St. Michael is adorned with statues by the local sculptor Christian Greiner. In winter, Sluderno becomes a starting point for all kinds of winter sports activities, such as excursions to the ski resorts of the Val Venosta.
