The Brenner Base Tunnel is a planned 55 km long railway tunnel through the base of the Eastern Alps: a project which is funded by Italy and Austria and will connect Fortezza and Innsbruck. The Brenner Pass is one of the most important traffic connections between northern and southern Europe. When the tunnel will be finished the whole freight traffic will cross the Alps by train.
