Badiamusica - Quadriga Consort
Info
Description
Concert as part of the Badiamusica Festival with the Quadriga Consort.
Quadriga Consort is one of Austria’s most successful ensembles, internationally renowned for its SONY best-selling albums On a Cold Winter’s Day, Crime and Mystery, and Winter’s Delights.
When darkness falls over the British Isles, stories that get under your skin have been awakening for centuries: songs of unrequited love, ballads of mysterious figures, eerie murder ballads and lamentations about loss and transience.
The Austrian ensemble Quadriga Consort brings these old melodies back to life – with harpsichord, viols, recorders, percussion and vocals. Many of the songs tell of cold nights, stormy winters and survival in a harsh, barren landscape. Well-known folk ballads meet forgotten treasures from Ireland, Scotland and England. In new arrangements by Nikolaus Newerkla, they unfold with a special intensity: archaic, moving, sometimes ghostly – and yet timelessly touching.
‘Darkness Falling’ is a concert evening full of contrasts – between tenderness and power, between Celtic mysticism and baroque elegance. Especially in the dark and wintry season, these chilling songs and dark tales unfold their full power and immediately captivate the audience.
Entrance is free.
