Yannis Xenakis: Sextet ‘Les Plejades’

‘Plejaden’ by Iannis Xenakis is a percussion sextet composed in 1979. It is considered one of the most important works in the history of percussion music. The work is characterised by a high degree of technical complexity and places extreme demands on the percussionists, who must play the specially developed instrument ‘Sixxen’, among other things. The name ‘Pleiades’ was borrowed from Greek mythology; the Pleiades are the daughters of the Titan Atlas and the sea nymph Pleione.
The main aim of the South Tyrolean percussion ensemble ‘conTakt percussion-group’ is to promote as wide a spectrum of percussion literature as possible, from both the classical and contemporary repertoires.
