Description

Alberto Rodríguez Librero – Spain 2014 – 105'

The mouth of the Guadalquivir, with its rice fields frequently shown from a bird’s-eye view, perfectly represents a nation still politically "swampy." The two protagonists of this noir film embody the difficulty of interpreting this society. While Juan is always ready to eat and engage with the local reality, Pedro is closed off and reserved. Their political positions seem to distance them significantly. However – and here the film gains its specific weight, transforming the thriller into a reflection and a reminder of a not-so-distant past – both were raised during Francoism, which in some way has permeated their behavior, even when it openly contradicts it.
