The hard fight for survival of flora and fauna in the mountains is the theme of the permanent exhibition “Living on the Edge”.
Directly on the Stelvio road, which leads in numerous serpentines to the highest mountain pass in Italy (2,757 m a.s.l.), one more of the five visitor centres of the Stelvio National Park is situated. This is naturatrafoi, which tells about life in the high alpine region. The conditions there are tough for animals and plants, adaptation is required, the soil is barren.
Naturatrafoi in Trafoi all'Ortles provides an excellent insight into the geology of the Ortles Alps with the 3,905 m high "King Ortles", as well as into the extreme climatic conditions of the high mountains and the survival strategies of the animals and plants living there. For young visitors there are interactive stations with guessing games, fairy tales and a stone puzzle. The nature exhibition is completed by the special exhibition "The Larch - Child of Light in the Alps".
