Naturatrafoi National Park House

The hard fight for survival of flora and fauna in the mountains is the theme of the permanent exhibition “Living on the Edge”

Directly on the Stelvio Pass Road, which leads in numerous serpentines to the highest accessible mountain pass by car in Italy (2,757 m a.s.l.), one more of the five South Tyrolean visitor centres of the national park is situated. This is naturatrafoi, which tells about life in the high alpine region. The conditions there are tough for animals and plants, adaptation is required, the soil is barren. The Naturatrafoi National Park House in Trafoi all'Ortles provides an excellent insight into the geology of the Ortles Alps with the 3,905 m high "King Ortles", as well as into the extreme climatic conditions of the high mountains and the survival strategies of the animals and plants living there.

For young visitors there are interactive stations with guessing games, fairy tales and a stone puzzle dedicated to the Stelvio National Park. The offer is completed by the special exhibition "Baby animals - born to be wild". The visit of the naturatrafoi National Park House (Nationalparkhaus naturatrafoi) can be optimally combined with an active day, e.g. doing the hike to the Sacred Three Fountains in summer and trying a toboggan ride on the Stelvio Pass Road in winter.
