Climbing the most beautiful Alpine passes in South Tyrol on a racing bike - that’s the aim of the Südtirol.Berg.Cup in spring every year
There are numerous mountain passes in South Tyrol that are open to traffic, but allow a much more intense experience if you tackle them by mountain bike or racing bike. Several cycle races are dedicated to this theme, one of them tackles the Dolomite passes in the Val Gardena valley, the others those in the Merano region and in the south of South Tyrol. It is the Südtirol.Berg.Cup (SouthTyrol.Mountain.Cup), which has one pass as its goal on each of three different weekends.
The first of the three races starts in April, it's the MendelRace: It leads over the 1,363 m high Mendola Pass, which separates the Oltradige from the neighbouring province of Trentino. A few weeks later, the Edelrot Trophy follows on the 1,518 m high Passo Palade, which leads from Lana into the Val di Non. The M2 Bike Trophy then completes the Südtirol.Berg.Cup and also has the highest pass on the programme: the Passo Giovo (2,094 m a.s.l.) between the Val Passiria and the Upper Valle Isarco. This allows amateur racing cyclists to compete in a beautiful landscape scenery.
