Moncucco

On the wide sunny slopes of the Alta Valle Isarco/Wipptal the scattered farms of Moncucco and Moncucco di Dentro can be found

Moncucco (Gigglberg), a scattered settlement of a dozen farmsteads on the slopes of the Tribulaun Ridge north of Colle Isarco, is the smallest district of the vast municipality of Brennero.

Divided into Inner and Outer Moncucco (Inner- and Außengigglberg) by the course of the Rio di Cuna (Kaunergrabenbach), Moncucco is an excellent access point to the Santicolo Pass (Sandjöchl), on the border with the Austrian Obernberg Valley, in an area of hiking interest but also historical significance, due to the presence of numerous remains of defensive works of the Alpine Wall built by fascist Italy to defend its borders.

The great Brennero border ridge route, which can be done on foot or by mountain bike, also passes through Moncucco, which can be reached in an hour's walk from the center of Colle Isarco.
