San Leonardo, in Ladin San Linert, is particularly proud of its rococo-style S. Leonardo Church, which is one of the most beautiful houses of worship in South Tyrol. Together with Pedraces on the other side of the Gader river, San Leonardo forms the centre of the municipality of Badia and becomes, so to speak, Badia village. The holiday resort is overlooked by the impressive Santa Croce Massif, at the foot of which the well-known Santa Croce Pilgrimage Church is enthroned, a recommendable excursion destination.
At the edge of the typical Ladin mountain village, the La Crusc Chairlift starts up to the meadows below the Sasso di Santa Croce. The first section takes you to the La Crusc Summer Park. There, a mini zoo with alpacas, donkeys and rabbits and exciting play stations amidst the relaxing mountain world of the Dolomites await young and old visitors. The route then continues with Section II, a Cable Car, to the pilgrimage church in the Fanes-Senes-Prags Nature Park.
In winter, the area of San Leonardo becomes the starting point for snowshoe and ski tours. The La Crusc Mountain Railway also forms the gateway to the Alta Badia Ski Area, which also has its slopes below the Santa Croce Massif. Badia village has preserved its rural charm, and some famous people were also born here. These include the two artists Lois Anvidalfarei and Lois Irsara as well as the first saint of South Tyrol, Josef Freinademetz.
