Ganda di Sotto and Ganda di Sopra form together the Ganda, one of the 11 districts of Appiano.
The Ganda area, situated between 405 and 520 m a.s.l., is close to the municipality of Caldaro. Early human traces have been found here, so the area has been settled for a long time. The settlement of Ganda, on the other hand, features no historical buildings.
The first houses were built in Ganda di Sotto (Untere Gand) from the 1950s onwards, then Ganda di Sopra (Obere Gand) was added. A legend tells that a beautiful town once stood here at the foot of Mt Ganda, today the settlement of Ganda has more than 2,000 inhabitants.
The debris cones on Mt. Ganda are also the scene of a special natural phenomenon: this is where the popular Ice Holes are located, which allow cold air to flow out of the lower openings even in summer. A pleasant hiking trail leads there. Worth seeing!
