Appiano Monte

In the west of the municipality of Appiano is the district of Monte with the Museum for Medieval Culture of Living

Although it is the youngest district of the municipality of Appiano - until recently Appiano Monte was part of San Michele - it has a long history to tell. Numerous residences adorn the streets: Among them are Freudenstein Castle, today known for its Golf Academy, and Palù-Schulthaus Castle with its Museum for Medieval Culture of Living.

The area of Appiano Monte stretches from 447 m up to 1,571 m on the Mendola ridge. About one third of the area is inhabited and used for agriculture, above 600 m sea level up to the rock faces of the Mendola the forest extends, which can be experienced, among other things, on the Appiano High Route.

From Appiano Monte a hike leads to the popular Ice Holes below Mt Ganda very close by. Especially in summer, this natural phenomenon is a popular destination...
