The Alpe di Tesido high above Tesido is a popular excursion in summer and a well-known tobogganing destination in winter

The mountain pasture is located at an altitude of over 2,000 metres in an alpine setting. From the village of Tesido, a mountain road leads past the Alte Mühle, the old mill on the Rio di Tesido stream, up to the buildings that form the hamlet of Alpe di Tesido (Taistner Alm). It belongs to the municipality of Monguelfo-Tesido and can also be reached on foot.
Below the alp is a large car park for hikers at the Mudler mountain inn, which is the starting point for numerous tours. One of these leads to the Alpe di Tesido itself. When there is snow, you can bring a toboggan for the way back: The route is one of the toboggan runs in the Val Pusteria.
Especially in early summer, countless alpine flowers cover the meadows. This is the time when the cows enjoy their summer on the pasture, before returning to the valley in autumn during one of the traditional cattle drives. Fit enough? From the alp, you can tackle the four peaks of the Monte Luta, Monte Dura, Monte Novale and Roda di Scandole, a panoramic mountain, as a circular hike.
In winter, a shorter version of this tour is recommended as a snowshoe hike to two peaks. Stopping for refreshments in one of the mountain huts - whether for a rustic dish or a Jagertee by a warm stove in winter - is an essential and revitalising part of the experience.
