Several hamlets in South Tyrol share the name Runggen, or Ronchi in Italian: One of these is on the slope above San Lorenzo

Ronchi is a small hamlet above Floronzo and Palù, at the entrance to the Val Badia and near the main village of San Lorenzo. It consists of just a few houses and a snack bar, which you can reach from the Aue industrial zone. The small Schrafflau Biotope, a protected area through which the Rio Gadera flows, is located nearby. The Lerchner snack bar in Ronchi is a welcoming place for a stop.
A hiking trail also passes through here, starting for instance in Casteldarne and leading over the Kienberg, a small mountain reaching up to 1,222 metres above sea level, to Mantana. From there, it continues up to Ronchi and back to Casteldarne along the Way of the Cross. Thanks to the well-developed bus network, you can also cover part of the route using public transport.
During the cold season, you can enjoy plenty of fresh air in Ronchi and the surrounding area, whether at winter hikes, at the nearby Plan de Corones Skiing Area or on ice skates in the main village of San Lorenzo. A visit to the Christmas Market is also recommended.
It takes place in Brunico and is one of the Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets. During Advent, a special atmosphere awaits you there, with creative gift ideas, including the annually created Brunico Christmas scent, and the aroma of typical sweets and mulled wine.
