Fassine

The farms of Fassine, one of the many hamlets of San Lorenzo di Sebato, are nestled in the woods of the Val Pusteria

The house numbers in Fassine range from 1 to 6 - that's all the buildings there are, standing side by side in the meadows. While other hamlets of the market town of San Lorenzo di Sebato extend into the Val Badia valley or stretch up the slope behind the main village, Fassine (Fassing) is located next to Campolino, below the Val Pusteria Sun Road. In the nearby South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in Teodone, a cistern from Fassine is documented as a historical object.

Otherwise, what you will find here is mainly peace and relaxation, far from cultural destinations, sights and crowds. Nature itself is the main attraction: The surrounding forests, where chanterelles and porcini mushrooms grow after summer thunderstorms, and the landscape, through which the hiking trail from Stegona to Montelargo and Fassine runs.

This two-hour hike starts in Stegona and leads up through the forest to the former Breitenberg snack stop. The route then continues along a forest road to Fassine and from there back to Stegona. Should you feel the urge for some shopping, skiing or a museum visit after a few quiet days, all of this can be found in the surrounding area.

It is only about three kilometres to the main village of San Lorenzo, another kilometre to the town of Brunico, and a further two to the valley station of the Plan de Corones in Riscone.
