Fassine

In the middle of the woods of the Val Pusteria valley lie the farms of Fassine, one of the many districts of San Lorenzo di Sebato

The house numbers of Fassine (Fassing) range from 1 to 6 - there are no more buildings standing side by side here in the meadows. While other districts of the market community of San Lorenzo di Sebato extend into the Val Badia valley or up the slope behind the main village, Fassine is situated next to Campolino below the Val Pusteria sun terrace with its famous Sun Road.

In the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in the nearby village of Teodone a cistern in Fassine is recorded as an ancient object, but otherwise the place mainly offers peace and relaxation away from cultural destinations, sights and mass tourism. The attraction is nature itself, with its forests where chanterelles and porcini mushrooms grow after summer thunderstorms, and where the hiking trail runs through the countryside from Stegona to Montelargo (Breitenberg) and Fassine.

This two-hour tour starts in Stegona and leads through the forest up to the former Breitenberg snack station. Then it continues on the forest road to Fassine and back to Stegona. If, after a few days of relaxation, you are tempted by shopping and skiing or ice cream and museums, then it is almost exactly three kilometres to the main village of San Lorenzo, another kilometre to the small town of Brunico, and another two to the lift facilities taking you to the famous Plan de Corones.
