S. Giacomo is located on a hill in Valle Aurina and is famous for its wood sculturing.
S. Giacomo in Valle Aurina is located in an elevated position, it is situated at 1,192 m and offers a Gothic parish church dedicated to S. Giacomo. On the church hill, there is also a village fountain created in 2003 and illustrating the statue of S. Giacomo, whose view is directed towards Santiago de Compostela. This statue reminds the fact that many trade routes from north to south used to pass across the Valle Aurina.
Also worth a visit is the sculpture garden of the artist Oberhollenzer, which can be admired in the village. This exhibition area is integrated in to Leonardi path, a short walk that is aimed at making promenaders familiar with the rural life in S. Giacomo.
Always has S. Giacomo been famous for wood sculpturing. There are many mask carvers and sculptors in the village that still today exert their skills.
In winter you can easily reach the skiing areas Speikboden and Klausberg, which provide for well-groomed slopes and action.
