The world’s leading trade fair for the entire apple sector takes place every two years in November in Bolzano
Growing apples, letting them ripen, harvesting apples correctly, storing them well, and then the marketing... there is only one trade fair in the world dedicated entirely to this round, sweet fruit. In even-numbered years in November - including 2026 - Bolzano becomes the apple capital. South Tyrol knows all about this: It is the largest contiguous apple-growing area in Europe and one of the most significant in the world. Every year, over one million tonnes of apples are harvested here.
The main varieties are Golden Delicious, Gala, and Red Delicious, but these are just three of around 30 varieties. 13 of these have the PGI seal (Protected Geographical Indication), including Red Pop, Cosmic Crisp, and Giga. Ideas, products, technologies, projects and innovations meet at Interpoma at the FieraMesse in Bolzano. 100 international journalists attend, alongside 400 leading companies from the sector and 16,000 apple experts from 60 countries.
Centred on the apple, there is also an interesting programme with exhibitions, meetings, workshops, the apple specialist congress "Interpoma Congress" and nine different Interpoma Tours showcasing examples of innovative apple production. The Interpoma Award with the Visitors' Choice Award honours an innovative company every two years: The last edition was held under the motto "Digital technologies for a more sustainable management of apple orchards".
