Mountain tour on the Lagazuoi

Impressive mountain hike in the Dolomites of Alta Badia and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

At the parking space of Saré, south of San Cassiano, we start our tour to the Lagazuoi Mountain Hut. In the shadow of the mountain tops we follow the reflection path “Nikolaus von der Flühe”, which leads us first to the chapel of Sass Dlacià and further to the Capanna Alpina Mountain Hut. Here we follow the marker to the Scotoni Mountain Hut, the path is wide and leads us quite steep uphill. The valley is surrounded by mighty mountain peaks of the Dolomites - Conturines, Lagazuoi, Fanes... only to call the most important. After 45 minutes we reach the Rif. Scotoni which is located on a small platform. Here the path starts, which leads us through a canyon up to Lake-Lagazuoi. This lake is a small, clear mountain lake in which the bizarre peaks of the Fanes-Dolomites are reflected. We will have a lot of amazing impressions today, but this view is probably the most beautiful one!

After a short break we continue uphill, on path no. 20, which intersects with the Dolomite High Altitude Trail. It runs parallel to the steep rugged rocks of Fanes and the big Lagazuoi. Still quite a while we have to walk step by step uphill, the vegetation becomes more and more sparsely. At 2,500 m a.s.l. the scant moonscape, which is typical for the Dolomites, starts. The last 200 m ascent starts at the Lagazuoi saddle up to the station of the cable car. The path runs uphill in serpentines. Remains of forts which were built in the First World War can be seen. We reach the mountain top and enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view. After a while we board the cable car down to Passo di Falzarego and take the bus back to our starting point.
