Hike around Mt. Sassolungo and Mt. Sassopiatto

Discovering the area above Alpe di Siusi, the Val di Fassa and Val Gardena, starting from Selva Gardena.

This walking tour of about six hours provides fantastic impressions of the Dolomites and its valleys. Starting from Selva Gardena (Wolkenstein), we take the Ciampinoi Cable Car, which takes us on 2,260 m a.s.l. within a short time. After having admired the outstanding panoramic view, we walk down to the crossing where we take the trail no. 526 A towards the Rif. Vicenza.

The trail is narrow, but the panoramic view makes us forget all efforts. After the Rif. Vicenza (Langkofelhütte), close the Mt. Sassopiatto, the trail starts getting better (trail no. 527). We walk up the Piz da Uridl and follow the signpost towards the Rif. Vicenza at the Giogo di Fassa. Once reached this ridge, it is high time for a break. From this point, the trail is called "Friedrich August Weg", leading the way to the Rif. Friedrich August and up to Passo Sella.

From this mountain pass, we enjoy a fabulous view on the Sella alpenstock, its pinnacles, the glacier of the Marmolada and on the other side, the peaks of the Sassopiatto mountain range. From Passo Sella, we cross the "Città dei sassi" (City of Stones) towards the Piz da Sela and up to the station of the Ciampinoi funicular. For this tour, you need to be physically fit, but it provides unforgettable views on the most beautiful mountains of the Alps.
